Good socks start
with good questions.
Fibre, knit structure and fit work together. Understand the building blocks so you can describe the pair your customer needs.

The blend is only
part of the story.
Two socks with similar fibre percentages can feel quite different. Yarn quality, knitting, cushioning, finishing and dimensions all influence the experience.
Begin with the intended use. Describe the warmth, thickness, softness, fit and appearance you are aiming for, then discuss material and construction options against that brief.
Connect the brief to quality checksDifferent roles. One fabric.
A familiar starting point.
Cotton is often chosen for its familiar hand feel and moisture absorbency. In a sock brief, the blend and knitted construction matter alongside the cotton content.
Ask about the exact composition, yarn feel, weight and care requirements.
The construction
changes the experience.
Cushioning
Define whether you want a lighter construction or cushioning in particular areas. A visual reference helps, but a sample is useful for comparing thickness and feel.
Cuff & leg
Rib structure, leg height and elastic tension affect how the sock sits. Include relaxed dimensions and describe the intended fit without relying on a single style name.
Heel & toe
Heel shape, toe closure and local reinforcement are details to discuss. Ask what construction is proposed and how it matches the intended wearer and use.
Size & care
Specify the size system and target foot range. Confirm care instructions for the finished blend and agree any dimensional checks after washing.
Ask for evidence.
Keep claims specific.
Terms such as “recycled”, “organic” or “performance” should mean something specific in a product brief. If one matters to your collection, ask what documentation or testing is available and what the claim actually covers.
Material availability and supporting documentation must be confirmed for the proposed product. This guide explains questions to ask; it is not a list of certified ValueTex materials.
